Letter of Inquiry

The Anschutz Family Foundation invites organizations to submit a brief one- to two-page Letter of Inquiry (LOI) prior to completing a full grant application that specifies how your organization’s work aligns with the Foundation’s funding priorities. LOIs can be submitted at any time through the grantee portal. In order to submit a LOI, an online portal account must be created.

While not required, we encourage a brief, no more than two-page LOI from:

  • First-time applicants
  • Organizations which have been turned down in the past
  • Organizations uncertain of fit and alignment with the Foundation’s focus and interest areas

Timeline
A Foundation staff member will contact you, typically within three to four weeks. If your organization appears to be a good match, we will invite you to submit a full grant application in our next grant cycle. Inquiries submitted within three weeks of a grant application deadline (January 15 or July 1) may not be reviewed until the following grant cycle.

What to include in your Letter of Inquiry
On the LOI form, you will be asked to upload a copy of your IRS Determination Letter as well as a brief, one- to two-page document that includes:

  1. An overview of what your organization does, including:
    • Programs and services
    • Number served
    • Geographic focus
    • Target and beneficiary populations
    • Current funding sources already secured, and those being approached
  2. Your request of Anschutz Family Foundation
    • Nature & purpose of what a grant would be used for
